How to compare Power NI prices with Business Energy UK

These days, it can be difficult for businesses when it becomes time to choose a new energy supplier.

Keeping prices low is important, but it is equally important for businesses and brands to show customers their green credentials by selecting a supplier that offers environmentally friendly energy online.

Being able to get the best of both worlds - green energy at great prices - is something that many strive for, and it is now easier than ever to weigh up your options.

Here at Business Energy UK, we make it quick and easy for you to compare the biggest suppliers with smaller, independent and niche services to make sure you get the best deals possible.

If you are located in Northern Ireland and are on the lookout for a good business energy deal, Power NI could be the answer.

This handy guide will explain everything you need to know and how you can compare Power NI's rates and tariffs with other suppliers to make sure you can find business energy online at a price that suits your business needs.

Who is Power NI?

With over 80 years of experience in providing competitive business and domestic prices, Power NI are well established as Northern Ireland's biggest energy supplier.

Customer service is a big focus for Power NI, and in the CCNI Complaints and Enquiries Report for 2018/19, Power NI came top of the table for the lowest amount of customer complaints for the eighth year in a row.

Power NI supplies roughly half of the commercial electricity market in Northern Ireland, meaning many thousands of businesses are supplied. Small business and farm prices are agreed upon with the Utility Regulator to guarantee a fair price.

As well as having fair prices, Power NI are committed to supporting many local charities, including Age NI, Dementia NI and National Energy Action, and larger charities like MacMillan and Action Mental Health.

There are also community sponsorship schemes for sports, performance arts and disability groups, and their Brighter Communities initiative that allows community groups to apply for funding.

Power NI business energy rates and tariffs

Power NI offers a range of services that cover all business sizes, including fixed and variable options. A fixed price will tie you into a contract with a set rate for the power you use, this offers stability, and you will know what you will be paying.

However, if the price drops, you might find that you are paying a lot more than the current market value.

Variable options set your price at the current market value and this can benefit you if the prices drop, but there is also the risk that prices might increase. We take a look at each tariff to see if there is an option that might be able to save you money on your energy bills.

Small businesses

Power NI would class a small business as one that spends less than £2,000 per quarter. If you do not want to sign up for a contract, you can stay on a standard tariff, which is likely to be more expensive.

You can choose between different tariffs on each of the following price plans depending on what will best suit your business.

  • Popular - This focuses on businesses that operate between 9-5, so it is ideal for retail or offices.
  • Nightsaver - If you are a food retailer and have fridges, chillers or storage heating, this will be a great option as you will find better overnight usage rates.
  • Weekender - Pubs and clubs that mainly operate over the weekend or in the evening might benefit from this option.

Medium businesses

Medium-sized businesses might have several sites or electricity bills of thousands of pounds every quarter.

Power NI offers medium-sized businesses a trustworthy supplier that has a range of contract options to suit all kinds of businesses and after-sales support from local experts.

Large businesses and group sites

Larger businesses will have annual electricity consumption costs of over £20,000 and are billed monthly. They will benefit from a key account manager and open and transparent pricing.

Here are the different tariffs available for small, medium large or multi-site businesses:

Fixed-rate contract

The benefits of a Power NI fixed price plan include for business:

  • Loyalty discounts for a 1-year contract
  • The stability of having a fixed electricity price

Variable-rate contract

The benefits of a Power NI variable plan include for a small business:

  • A loyalty bonus for 1 or 2-year contracts
  • Your price tracks the market rates
  • You will not be locked into an out of date price

The benefits of a Power NI green energy plan for a small business include:

  • A loyalty bonus for 1 or 2-year contracts
